The Journal of VLSI Circuits and Systems  is committed to upholding high standards of academic integrity, originality, and technical accuracy in the field of VLSI research. In response to the growing use of Generative AI and AI-assisted tools, the following policy has been established to ensure ethical and transparent usage by all contributors.

For Authors

  • Permitted Use:
Authors may use generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Grammarly) solely to enhance grammar, spelling, and language clarity. AI tools must not be used to generate technical content, circuit models, or simulations.

  • Disclosure Requirement:
If any generative AI tool is used during manuscript preparation, this must be explicitly disclosed in a section titled "AI Use Disclosure" at the end of the manuscript, prior to the References.

    Example:

“The authors used ChatGPT (OpenAI) for language editing under human supervision. All technical content, results, and circuit designs are solely the responsibility of the authors.”

  • Prohibited Use:

    • AI tools must not be used to generate original research content, circuit designs, layout diagrams, simulation results, or to interpret data.

    • AI tools must not be listed as authors or co-authors.

    • AI-generated images, circuit schematics, or plots are not acceptable, unless they are part of a declared AI-based research methodology, which must be detailed in the Methods section.

For Reviewers

  • Submitted manuscripts are confidential and must not be uploaded to AI platforms or language models, even for proofreading or summarization.

  • Review reports must be written entirely by the reviewer and reflect their own technical expertise and critical evaluation.

  • Use of AI for scientific critique or content generation in peer review is strictly prohibited.

For Editors

  • Editors must not upload manuscripts, decision letters, or confidential communications into any AI tool.

  • Editorial decisions must be based solely on human academic judgment.

  • If undisclosed or inappropriate use of AI is suspected by authors or reviewers, the editorial office may request clarifications and take appropriate action.

Ethical Compliance

This policy is aligned with guidelines from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and ICMJE. Violations may lead to:

  • Manuscript rejection,

  • Article retraction,

  • Reporting to affiliated institutions.
